: I should be asleep by now...
If you have an Ikea Billy with an extension on top, how on earth do you get the extension to stay on the main part of the bookshelf? The extension came with two little holes and two of those metal widgets used to hold shelves on. The widgets fit into the holes in the extension, but there are no corresponding holes in the main bookcase. Are you supposed to drill them yourself, or what?
I put together two Billies before the one that wants the extension. None of them have holes in the top where the extension should fit. (And, as you can see from a quick look at any Billy, even a clutz like me can't get the two long sides the wrong way up and not notice until the last minute: the kickplate at the bottom requires a different set of holes, and the bottom end of the Billy sides is differently shaped from the top end.)
Either Edinburgh Ikea is selling faulty Billys, or else you are supposed, if you want an extension, to buy a specific type of Billy. I suspect the latter. Can someone who knows more about Ikea than me confirm this supposition?
