A valve problem - the ball-cock *g* had apparently fallen the wrong way, and was blocking the feed, and causing massive airlocks in the pipes. Once the ball-cock and been flipped back, and water run through the system to clear the airlocks, all was well.

It was in fact a classic case of an expert being someone you pay £5 for tapping a valve, and £65 for knowing where to tap...

When two or more slash fans discuss plumbing, I think a certain number of virtual *g* at the word "ball-cock" are to be expected...

I listened to the plumber explaining it to me very seriously! I did not smile at all!

...but in the context of explaining it to Shoshanna...
