08:15 am: I have no water
And it's raining, which is especially ironic.

To be precise: no water is coming out of the mains tap. I have just contacted Scottish Water to ask them "the hell?" since I heard nothing about this.

I cannot wash. I can probably flush the toilet once, so, um, I'm saving that up for when I really, really need to. (TMI. Sorry.) I have a couple of bottles of water which is what the cats are drinking and I am washing my hands and brushing my teeth with.

I cannot make bread. That needs water. I cannot make tea. I cannot make coffee. I cannot make soup! (Well, I could buy beer and use that for stock. Hm.) I can't do the washing up!

The water was gone when I left for work yesterday (it was fine as of the previous night) but I thought it was probably just a less-than-one-day outage of the kind that happens sometimes when you live on an old street and other people's plumbing problems become your own.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I'm doing a visualization exercise of some Important Suit from your water service, coming around to your street and apologizing on his/her knees to the members of each affected household.

Not that it will happen, but the vibes certainly cannot hurt.

Even better, though would be working water. Both would just be the icing without the cake. (For those of us who sometimes indulge in icing without any cake to dilute its richly creamy goodness, that would be just grand.)

Icing. Cake. They sell carrot cake in the cafe next door that has lovely white creamy icing....

Mmm. Sorry. Visualisation exercise, oh yes.

That would be nice...

The last time that happened to us (in Hampshire) we got given a few litre-bottles of water by the water board, just to cover consumption needs. (You could ask, maybe?) Sympathies and hope it's back by the time you read this!

Actually, yes, if it's going to be off for a while. But I hope not. What I worry is that it is a plumbing problem from up street.

Yipes, I hope it's back by now. In dire emergency you can go buy enough water to fill your toilet's tank, but sheesh.

I will be going to the gym for the first time in Iain'tsayin' today, because it is where I can take a shower. With luck, I'll also work out while I'm there...

I used the loo at the Ocean Terminal, which is only about five/ten minutes walk away, and may end up working even longer hours at work than usual...

Ha. Snap. I packed my gym kit today thinking well, taking a shower is a powerful motivator for getting to the gym...

No water here either, although the city gave advance warning the day before they shut it off (and they turn it back on at night) for their work on the sewers and water pipes (half the street's been dug up in front of the house), so I was able to fill the bathtub with water to use to flush the toilet, and jugs for drinking.

Apparently it's probably a plumber turning my water off at the mains by mistake (or in conjunction with a bunch of other houses).
