12:42 pm: Bob is too thin.
She's 3.1 kilos. The thinnest she's been before, last September, was 3.2 kilos. She went up to 3.4 kilos last time she saw the vet.

She had an appointment to be seen by the vet this morning, and the vet went over her thoroughly - no lump in her thyroid, no sign of tumours elsewhere. No reason she should have lost weight, except she has and is: she's eating but not enough. She's lively as usual, and affectionate at me and growly at Wolf. But too thin.

She feels far too light when I pick her up.

I couldn't even make this post last night, I was too worried. I feel better that the vet's checked her over - I was thinking (among other horrid prospects) that how Cally went was a tumour in her stomach that stopped her from eating.

Wolf is ginormous. I'm going to have to buy a bigger cage to take him to the vet next month for his booster shots: he'll never fit into the one I use for Bob.

I sorry. It is a worry - mine was at the vet this very morning for the same thing, so I know how you feel. If it's any comfort, we once had a cat that lost a lot of weight in middle age through hormone problems but she went on happily for years after that, so it's good that the vet found nothing specific. They don't seem to put on weight easily once it's gone, but let's hope her appetite picks up.

Thanks. It is quite comforting. She does eat. She just doesn't eat enough to put weight back on.

Have you tried changing their food? When Paka (our Siamese) had diabetes my mom bought a bunch of samples of high-protein food from our local pet supply store to find something that both Paka and Simon would eat, and at that point Simon had been losing weight and not eating much, but then when she switched to the new food he seemed to really like it, and he gained back all the weight he'd lost plus some extra padding. Bob seems to like the Hills Science Diet chicken-flavour kibble as well as she likes anything, and I keep her switching around the packets of wet food, which she also seems to like. I may try her on more of the wet stuff, because she does seem to go after that more enthusiastically; the problem is making sure she gets it, and not Wolf.

What we used to do was put Simon in a separate room so that he could eat in peace, because before we got Paka on the insulin she would eat all her food in less than a minute, and then if we didn't catch her in time she'd push Simon out of the way and eat his too. I dunno if that's an option for you but having our cats eat separately ended up being good for both of them - Simon gained some weight and Paka lost some.

I have a fairly open-plan house, is the problem. But yes. I should be able to out-smart a cat - at least, to outsmart Wolf - and get him into the idea that he eats Somewhere Else.

...either that, or just feeding Bob when I settle down in front of the TV for an hour.
