09:49 am: I'm packed and we're leaving Plockton
I don't really have words to say how wonderful the ceremony was yesterday. But at the dinner, afterwards, one of their oldest friends (I mean in age: chronologically, I'm one of their oldest friends, having known RiK for 25 years...) got up and made a short speech about how privileged we all felt to have been invited and to have been there, and then we all toasted them, and it was... well again: no words.

I fell in love with Plockton. I want to come back. If I go downstairs now and pay, I have an hour or more before we actually have to leave which I can spend wandering around and taking more photographs, so I'm going to do that. And we're going to Skye too, today.

Next time I'm going to pack walking shoes and work off these magnificent breakfasts and dinners in walking.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I'm glad you've been having a good time. :) And congratulations to your friends.

Also, I approve of the subject title of your post. "I'm packed and we're leaving" is all momentous, and then there is "Plockton", which is a name that is the opposite of momentous. Good.

Plockton has never been momentous. But it's very nice.

Oh! Is Plockton where they filmed Hamish Macbeth? I think possibly I've just realised why it sounded familiar. If so, it looks about the most absurdly beautiful place in the world.

Yes, that's it. It was a planned village built to look pretty at the beginning of the 19th century, and it's now - the whole village - a listed historic monument, so it still looks pretty.

The Wicker Man was also filmed there.

Oh yes, Plockton! On our travels in Scotland a few years back we visited Plockton just for the WM connection. Those palm trees! All that was missing was a pub called THE WICKER MAN: has this omission since been rectified?

Around that area, we also fell in love-at-first-sight with Eilean Donan castle. And all the lochs...

...From your previous post you clearly know your Bollywood, so I don't need to tell you which other film also fell in love with Eilean Donan ;)

...I don't think the locals see that as an omission. Though I suppose they might figure it was better to have one pub they could be sure all the tourists would go to, they do seem to demarcate their businesses quite carefully to share the passing trade.

Goodness, I don't know Bollywood! I am gradually and painlessly being sucked in to Shahrukh Khan fandom via [info]whatho and [info]jekesta. (At least, it hasn't hurt so far...)

Re the lack of pub - oh I see! Fair enough, then. Re suitable names, I seem to remember a guesthouse called the "Nessun Dorma" in the area (oh yes, here it is) and our reaction was, "The 'None Shall Sleep' Guesthouse? Not exactly a recommendation..."

And AH! The film you need to see if you want Shahrukh AND Eilean Donan is the film KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI. Warning: it's a really, REALLY messed-up film and probably my least favourite SRK vehicle. But it does have SRK, Rani and Kajol dancing outside Eilean Donan, so take a look purely for that.

Well, it is right by the railway line/the train station, which compared to the rest of the place, is quite noisy (albeit not often, of course...)
